CHALLENGE: Prairie Pines is a beautiful nature preserve located in Lincoln, Nebraska. At the beginning of this project, they had a rough map and a logo, but not much in the way of a wayfinding system or visual brand. Their ask was to establish a wayfinding system and expand on their map and visual brand in a way that complemented their existing logo.
SOLUTION: My goal was to create a beautiful, but simple and easy-to-use map and wayfinding system in order to help visitors journey through the natural terrain. As Prairie Pines is a bit confusing to navigate with many interconnecting trails (some of which are quite condensed in smaller areas of the nature preserve), I wanted to keep the system simple with elements that referenced their historied past and inform about the site and its landmarks while avoiding too many distractions. By using natural colors with somewhat muted saturation, the designs speak to the important values of conservation and nature at Prairie Pines.
Beyond the creation of the map and wayfinding system, I also created proof of concepts for what potential swag and merchandise could look like, as well as an email announcing the launch party for the new map and wayfinding system.
